04/13/2006, Sri Lanka - "Time change from April 14", Daily News
|
The clock will be turned back by 30 minutes from tomorrow (April 14) midnight, this being the first midnight after the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Since the majority of the people will be celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and the auspicious time for the dawn of the New Year has already been fixed according to the present clock, the time will be changed from April 14 midnight after the New Year has dawned.
The time was changed in 1996 during the height of the drought to save electricity. Sri Lanka is now six hours ahead of GMT, but with the change will revert to five and a half hours ahead of GMT, the same time zone as India.
